LEGO 2k Drive Revealed March 26th, 2023
Just a few days ago, The LEGO Group made headlines in announcing a new game in collaboration with gaming company 2k. The companies plan to work together on a multi-media contract to usher in the next generation of LEGO games. This up-coming title will focus on the racing genre pulling in inspirations and models from themes like City, Speed Champions, and Creator. It is un known at the time if other big themes like Monkie Kid or Ninjago will make the scene.
This is a drastic departure from previous triple A LEGO titles marking the first to NOT be made by TT Games and it shows. The gameplay here is never like any other LEGO Game before. Or well. At least any modern LEGO game. Watching through the trailer it reminded me a lot of LEGO's other racing game. LEGO Racers. Just like it's predecessor, there's a plethora of environments to burn rubber.
Genuinely, this game looks like lots of fun. Not only is there a variety of minigames inspired by all sorts of genres, there's also an in-game builder. With over 1,000 unique LEGO elements, you can pretty much build your dream car. Something I myself always wanted in a racing game as a kid. What's awesome is that it seems to be similar to Stud.io and LEGO Digital Designer. The most popular LEGO digital building software's.
In addition to all this content, you can get even more out of the game by purchasing either the Awesome or Awesome Rivals edition. Both bring about extra minifigure, vehicle, and flair options. Though keep in mind that either of these can run you upwards of $199.99 (yay...). The same amount of money that could be spent on a large LEGO set or diorama. However, there is an extra incentive to get the Awesome edition as it includes a gift with purchase in the form of a creator style 3-in-1 , 2k sponsored car.
LEGO® 2k Drive: $69.99 USD
LEGO® 2K Drive – Awesome Edition: $99.99 USD
LEGO® 2K Drive – Awesome Rivals Edition: $119.99 USD
This game is expected to release on May 19th, 2023. Coming to PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch are you excited? Is LEGO asking too much for a potential next big hit? Personally I'll try it out if they offer a demo or wait till a sale. Either way though the game does look like fun! Will you be planning to pick this up? Let me know in the comments below!
